Wayne Rooney announces his retirement internationally

England striker Wayne Rooney has announced his retirement from international football after a long career with the three Blacks.

The 31-year-old Rooney has decided to put an end to his international career by announcing his retirement, the English media reported.

The player released a formal statement that he decided to retire internationally to focus with his new team Everton.

Rooney began his career with England 14 years ago, in 2003 when he was an Everton player.

Rooney scored 53 goals after playing 119 games.

Rooney became the youngest player to defend England when he made his first appearance in a friendly against Australia on February 12, 2003, at the age of 17 and 111 days.
